A Guided Meditation on The Five Remembrances in the Plum Village Tradition

Breathing in, I know this is my in breath.
Breathing out, I know this is my out breath.
This is in breath.
This is out breath.

Breathing in, I know I have a body.
Breathing out, I smile with gratitude to my body.
I’m aware of my body.
I’m smiling with gratitude.

Breathing in, I know I’m of the nature to grow old.
Breathing out, I know there is no escaping growing old.
I will grow old.
There is no escape.

Breathing in, I know I’m of the nature to get sick.
Breathing out, I know there is no escaping getting sick.
I will get sick.
There is no escape.

Breathing in, I know I’m of the nature to die.
Breathing out, I know there is no escaping death.
I will die.
There is no escape.

Breathing in, I know that every one and every thing I love is of the nature to change.
Breathing out, I know there is no escaping being separated from them.
All I love will change.
There is no escaping separation.

Breathing in, I know that my actions of body, speech, and mind are the ground on which I stand.
Breathing out, I know that all of my actions are my continuation.
I know my actions define me.
My actions will continue me always.

Breathing in, I come home to the present moment.
Breathing out, I feel this is a wonderful moment.
I am at home in the present moment.
This is such a wonderful moment.
